Drinkmate FAQs
Drinkmate carbonators are powered by compressed CO2 gas, not by electricity or batteries. They use standard threaded CO2 cylinders.
Drinkmate is the world's first home carbonation machine that lets you carbonate any drink, not just water and also re-carbonates fizzy drinks that have gone flat like soft drinks, sparkling wine, beer, champagne etc. The key is our patented Fizz Infuser technology. The Fizz Infuser features a two-stage pressure release system that allows you to safely and easily carbonate virtually any beverage. Other home carbonating machines state that they can only carbonate water because they cannot safely depressurise drinks containing sugar, flavourings or alcohol.

Drinkmate can carbonate virtually any cold drink, not just water like most other sparkling drinks makers. With Drinkmate, the possibilities are almost endless.
Enjoy sparkling drinks your way, whether you're looking to cut back on sugary fizzy drinks, create healthier alternatives at home, or simply experiment with new flavours. From juice and squash to iced tea and cocktails, Drinkmate lets you add fizz to your favourite drinks in seconds. Whether you're at home, at work, outdoors or on the go, you can create the perfect sparkling drink just the way you like it

Troubleshooting
- The CO₂ cylinder may be empty. Replace it with a new cylinder.
- The CO₂ cylinder may be too cold. Allow it to reach room temperature before use.
- Your drink may be too warm. Use a colder liquid, as lower temperatures produce better carbonation.
- Check that the CO₂ cylinder is properly attached to the receptacle. If it is loose, it may not activate correctly. Gently but firmly hand-tighten the cylinder.
- CO₂ may not be mixing properly with your chosen drink. Shake the bottle and allow 10 seconds for the CO₂ to fully mix with the drink before releasing the pressure.
- Your drink may contain a high level of sugar, which tends to absorb more CO₂ than water. Add one or two extra bursts of CO₂ and shake the bottle before releasing the pressure.
- Use longer bursts of CO₂.
- The valves in the Fizz Infuser may be blocked or leaking. If you can hear a hissing sound, soak the Fizz Infuser in clean water for 15 minutes or replace it.
Every drink behaves differently when carbonated. If foam escapes from the Fizz Infuser while you're releasing pressure, try the following the next time you carbonate that drink:
- Fill the bottle only halfway to allow more room for foam.
- Use shorter bursts of CO₂.
- Wait a little longer between each burst of carbonation.
The more you use your Drinkmate machine, the more confident you'll become at carbonating different drinks and achieving the perfect level of fizz.
There may be excess CO₂ pressure inside the bottle. To release it, lift the chrome pressure-release tab on the Fizz Infuser and wait until all excess pressure has escaped, or press the blue quick-release button to release the pressure more quickly. Once the pressure has been fully released, the Fizz Infuser should be easier to open.
Always make sure the Fizz Infuser is fully slid into position before locking it down.
The Fizz Infuser contains a magnet that helps guide it smoothly into place, so there should be no need to force it. If the Fizz Infuser is only partially inserted when you lock it down, the white tip may become damaged. If this happens, your Drinkmate may not be able to carbonate drinks correctly.
This is uncommon and can easily be avoided with a little care and patience.
- Slide the Fizz Infuser fully into the machine at a 45-degree angle.
- Then gently but firmly push the Fizz Infuser and bottle down into the locked position, ready to carbonate your drink.
CO2 Cylinders
A standard 60L CO₂ cylinder can carbonate up to 60 litres of water.
The exact number of drinks you can carbonate will vary depending on the type of drink, how much carbonation you prefer, and how you use your Drinkmate machine. Drinks that require a higher level of fizz will naturally use more CO₂.
We recommend keeping one or two spare cylinders at home, so you can quickly replace an empty cylinder and keep enjoying your favourite sparkling drinks without interruption.

Yes, Drinkmate is compatible with most standard threaded CO₂ cylinders from other brands.
However, there are some exceptions. Certain manufacturers use a proprietary cylinder system designed exclusively for a specific machine. These cylinders will not fit Drinkmate machines and, likewise, Drinkmate cylinders will not fit those machines.
If you're unsure whether a particular cylinder is compatible with your Drinkmate, please contact our customer support team for advice before use.
Yes. Drinkmate uses beverage-grade CO₂ sourced from reputable EU suppliers. All CO₂ supplied meets stringent quality and safety standards and is fully traceable, with quality control and recall procedures in place should they ever be required.
You can enjoy your favourite sparkling drinks with complete confidence, knowing the CO₂ used in your Drinkmate is safe, reliable and suitable for food and drink preparation.
No. We strongly advise against refilling cylinders through unauthorised third parties or using unapproved CO₂ supply sources.
For safety, performance and warranty reasons, Drinkmate cylinders should only be refilled or exchanged through approved suppliers. Using unapproved CO₂ sources may damage your machine, affect its performance, and could invalidate your warranty.
We cannot verify the quality, purity or handling of CO₂ supplied by third parties, and improperly filled or damaged cylinders may pose a safety risk. To ensure the best experience and continued safe operation of your Drinkmate, always use approved CO₂ supply options.

The chrome release tab is designed for slow pressure release. When lifted, it allows CO₂ to escape gradually, reducing pressure inside the bottle and helping to minimise foaming.
The blue quick-release button provides a faster way to release pressure. For some drinks, such as water, there is usually no need to use the slow-release tab first, and you can use the blue button straight away.
Before removing the Fizz Infuser, always press the blue quick-release button to ensure all pressure has been fully released.
Never attempt to force the Fizz Infuser off the bottle. Removing it while the bottle is still under pressure may cause the contents to spray out, creating a mess and potentially causing injury.

The Fizz Infuser should be rinsed with room-temperature or warm (not hot) water immediately after use when carbonating anything other than water. Lift the slow-release valve (the chrome tab) to allow water to flow through the inside of the unit. This is particularly important if your drink has overflowed and entered the Fizz Infuser.
We recommend soaking the entire Fizz Infuser in clean water for 10 minutes once a month to keep it thoroughly clean.
Caution: The Fizz Infuser is not dishwasher-safe.

No. We do not recommend storing the Fizz Infuser in the fridge.
The Fizz Infuser contains a number of precision components, including springs and valves, which are designed to operate at normal room temperatures. Storing the Fizz Infuser in very cold conditions may affect its performance and could lead to operational issues.
If you'd like to chill your drink after carbonation, simply remove the Fizz Infuser and use the bottle cap supplied with your Drinkmate bottle before placing it in the fridge.
This will help keep your drink fresh and sparkling while protecting the Fizz Infuser from unnecessary wear.

Some drinks, such as beer, naturally produce more foam during carbonation than others. If foam comes through the Fizz Infuser, there's no need to worry. Simply rinse the Fizz Infuser thoroughly after use to keep it clean and working properly.
To reduce foaming next time, try using shorter, gentler bursts of CO₂ and fewer carbonation cycles. Before releasing the pressure, gently shake the bottle to help more CO₂ dissolve into the drink, which can reduce excess pressure and improve carbonation.
If you'd like a fizzier result, simply reattach the bottle to your Drinkmate and add more CO₂.
With Drinkmate, you're in control of the level of carbonation, so you can create the perfect amount of fizz to suit your taste.

The ideal level of carbonation depends on both the type of drink and your personal taste. We recommend experimenting with different levels of fizz to find what works best for you.
For maximum carbonation, continue adding short bursts of CO₂ until you hear the characteristic ‘whoosh’ as excess gas is released through the Fizz Infuser.
Some drinks are more challenging to carbonate because they produce more foam. For these drinks, use a gentler approach by pressing the carbonation button only part of the way down. Short, controlled bursts of CO₂ are usually more effective than long bursts, and can help reduce excessive foaming.
With a little experimentation, you'll quickly learn the best carbonation technique for each type of drink and enjoy consistently great results.

The Drinkmate Fizz Infuser is equipped with built-in safety valves to help prevent over-pressurisation. Once the optimum pressure is reached, you'll hear a characteristic ‘whoosh’ as excess CO₂ is released. While you can continue pressing the carbonation button, doing so will simply waste CO₂ without significantly increasing carbonation.
If you'd like a higher level of carbonation, remove the Fizz Infuser and bottle from the machine and gently shake the bottle while it remains pressurised. This helps more CO₂ dissolve into the drink, increasing carbonation without using additional gas.
For best results, we recommend using short, consistent bursts of CO₂ during carbonation.
With a little practice, you'll soon find the ideal level of fizz for your favourite drinks and achieve consistently great results every time.
